My voice is finally semi-okay, so I did a free reading. The idea is to do one of these a month that’s free to every newsletter subscriber, paid and not. And to do three others that are available only to paid subscribers.
Anyway, I give some updates before the reading, on how things are going, and yes, actually trying to finish Witch’s Daughter so you guys get the earc — for non Baen readers, this is an unedited manuscript with all its sins er… typos upon it. I don’t know why but people seem to think it’s awesome to see what comes from the author’s keyboard before someone sane goes over it. OTOH it also means that paid subscribers will get to read the story months ahead of its being released, so that’s something, right?
I’m also trying to edit No Man’s Land. It’s a daunting task due to the immense size of the book and how long it lived in my head. The last is a problem, because I assume people know everything I know and…. that just ain’t true.
Anyway, I hope you enjoy Tic Toc, written in early 2016. It’s funny and also strangely disquieting.
Reading of Tic Toc, (Title of story, not the site!) for download or to listen to onsite.
Interesting writing lesson: combine the "are you kidding me?" story with a "yes, life works that way" story. But the technique to pull it off ... that's harder.
